Flyaway makes dances in unlikely places, activating the sides of buildings above bleak city streets. Founded in 1996, Flyaway Productions is an apparatus based dance company that explores the range and power of female physicality. Our mission supports the following goals: the integration of experimental forms with social and political content; the support of women artists, where women's voices remain an underserved element of public culture; and the use of spectacle/flight/suspended apparatus to expand the choreographic language. Flyaway makes projects by and for women/girls, collaborating with community partners to present large-scale site-specific performances on the walls of public buildings. All project activities take place in the public eye and free.
