Spring brings mud, migrating birds and field trips! Since March, we have welcomed 2,760 elementary students and 1,939 secondary students on 42 separate field trips. Volunteers and staff conducted hikes, ran educational stations and supervised hand-washing and bus-parking. Students saw and learned about click beetles, water snakes eating fish, stream-bank erosion, screech owls, woodpecker holes, and so many butterflies and ants. We cannot show enough gratitude to our tireless volunteer hike and education leaders. And the students thanked them, too. Their drawings and thank-you notes made our day! (fb)

Flashback 35: Youth Children have been visiting the Conservancy since our beginnings, but in 1997, our nature education programming officially started. In early years, the Conservancy partnered with Living Classrooms Baltimore. In spring of 1997, 300 students visited the Conservancy for field trips. Since then, the program has grown exponentially. In 2024, the Conservancy reached more than 19,000 students who visited for field trips on owls, biodiversity and climate change, studied our system-wide sixth-grade climate knowledge curriculum or met one of our animals in their classrooms.
