Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter (Society for Treatment of Abandoned and Fractured Friends)
We are a small but mighty no-kill animal shelter located in beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. Our mission is to rescue, find homes for, and improve the lives of homeless dogs and cats. To provide support and education to our community through our low-income spay/neuter assistance program, emergency vet bill assistance, and pet food pantry. To protect and advocate for companion animals in need, and to build a humane community that promotes compassion and seeks to strengthen the human-animal bond. And to promote the humane treatment of animals through education, advocacy and services.

Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter (Society for the Treatment of Abandoned and Fractured Friends)
Overview
Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter, originally known as the Society for the Treatment of Abandoned and Fractured Friends (S.T.A.F.F.), is a charitable 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. The shelter serves as a no-kill refuge for stray, lost, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats.
Mission and Activities
The shelter's mission is multifaceted:
- Animal Rescue: Ozarks Kat and K9 focuses on rescuing and finding homes for homeless dogs and cats.
- Community Support: The organization provides essential services such as low-cost spay/neuter assistance, emergency veterinary bill aid, and a pet food pantry to support local pet owners.
- Education and Advocacy: It strives to promote the humane treatment of animals through education and advocacy, aiming to build a compassionate community that strengthens the bond between humans and animals.
Operations
Ozarks Kat and K9 relies on proceeds from its thrift store, public donations, and grants to maintain its operations. Unlike many municipal-run shelters, it is not funded by city or state resources, and all donations to the organization are tax-deductible. The shelter rescues over 500 animals annually and supports numerous others through community programs.
Historical Background
Founded in 1986, the organization was formally incorporated in 1989 as S.T.A.F.F. It later adopted the name Ozarks Kat and K9 to more clearly reflect its role as a shelter for dogs and cats. Despite its small team of volunteers and employees, the organization is dedicated to its mission of improving the lives of animals in need.
