Counter Balance Foundation for Victims of Crime

Counter Balance is a newly registered and tax-exempt 501(c)(3) in San Diego, California. Our aim is to provide victims of violent crime with the legal resources needed to become whole again after suffering a tragedy. Counter Balance intends to serve victims of violent crime, regardless of a victim's economic status, but we anticipate predominately serving underprivileged and vulnerable classes in the San Diego community. Counter Balance acts as the bridge between the prosecuting agency and the victim by addressing, educating, and providing legal services to victims of violent crimes, as dictated by the California Penal Code. We intend to provide our clients with a broad range of legal resources through our network of experienced volunteer attorneys. More importantly, there are two avenues in which our network of volunteer attorneys can serve our clients. The first, and most predominant area, is acting as a legal asset for the victim, at no cost, while he or she seeks justice through the legal system. Most prosecutorial agencies are unable to fulfill victim-centric laws due to an overworked system, thus creating a void in victims' aid. No other organization assists both the victim and prosecution as a full service second support team, fully integrated as legal advocates for victims. Secondly, clients may not be able to receive legal redress through the system and or may need additional legal services. This additional need will be addressed with the aid Counter Balance provides.
