Saving Young Minds
Saving Young Minds (SYM) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase Awareness, Prevention, Assessment, & Management of Sports-Related Concussions in student-athletes from under-privileged communities. By providing Parent, Coach, and Student research-based information, baseline assessments of cognitive and neurological functioning, and professional management of post-concussive recovery, Saving Young Minds hopes to be able to prevent unnecessary risks to student-athletes who sustain brain injuries in their formative years. These traumatic brain injuries often go unrecognized and untreated. Educating parents, coaches, and athletes on the signs and symptoms of concussions can go a long way in the prevention and treatment of head injuries. These students are at high risk for repeated injury and many do not have the financial or mental health resources to identify and treat concussions sustained through participation in their chosen sport.
