Last legislative session, FPI and other advocates in labor and child welfare fought hard to preserve the limits on hours, curfew, and days that teens can be made to work during the school year. That resulted in the Legislature passing a less harmful version of HB 49 than what was originally proposed in the 2024 session. This session, the Legislature seeks to chip away at the eroding protections enacted in HB 49 even further. SB 918/HB 1225 (2025) go beyond what HB 49 originally proposed, and now, the Legislature has added a new provision to HB 1225--which would allow employers to hire 13-year-olds to work (beginning the summer of the year in which they turn 14). *FPI remains opposed to any rollbacks, and this chart has been updated to reflect these changes. Floridians who have been incarcerated face numerous barriers after prison, including unemployment, housing insecurity, and food insecurity. Legislation (HB 195/SB 472) would help remove some of the post-incarceration roadblocks that Floridians face. The bill would ensure that credits earned from prison-based classes in Florida are recognized and counted toward licensing requirements. Read more: bit.ly/occupational-licensing-reform-FL (fb)
