Founded on October 9, 1927, in Washington, D.C., as the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute (CREI), the institution initially focused on training radio and electronics technicians. Over the years, it evolved to become one of the first technical institutes accredited by the Engineers’ Council for Professional Development following World War II. The institute changed its name to Capitol Institute of Technology (CIT) in 1964 and began awarding Bachelor of Science degrees in 1966. In 1969, CIT relocated to Kensington, Maryland, and later moved to its current location in Laurel, Maryland, in 1980. The institution became Capitol Technology University in 2014 following significant growth and program expansion[3].
