"To make a prairie it takes a clover and one bee…" Emily Dickinson's poetry isn't necessarily a replacement for USFS and NPS resource management plans... but she's not wrong. Bees (and other native pollinators) make prairie possible. Every coneflower, bergamot, or chokecherry owes something to pollinators' quiet, constant work. In the Black Hills and Nebraska Panhandle, pollinators bring May Flowers as much as April Showers do. This World Bee Day, take a moment to notice the humming action beneath it all.
