January 4th we held the 54th Annual Student Concerto Competition, organized by Anne Hoffler, Susan Fourness-Ewell, and Julie Brantley, supported by RSL volunteers. The Elinor and Frank Kuhn Concerto Competition Fund sponsor this event, and we are grateful for their generosity. We dedicated this year’s competition to the memory of John King who passed away several months ago and was very active in this event as well as serving several years as our VP -Education. A total of 28 young musicians from throughout Virginia competed, including strings, piano, and flute, and were all quite extraordinary. Our 3 judges chose to award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners and 3 honorable mentions, as follows: First Place - Elaine Zhang, cello Second Place - Leah Sze Yuen Pang, violin Third Place - Ethan Chen, piano Honorable Mention: Kevin Shen, piano; Julie Lee, violin; Alexander Moon, violin (fb)
