"There’s a whole world reflected in those eyes." Start your week with a moment of quiet reflection from our thoughtful orangutan, BamBam. Known for his calm demeanor and deep, observant gaze, BamBam has a way of making you pause and appreciate the present moment. Whether he's people-watching from the aerial trailways or relaxing in the sunshine, BamBam reminds us to slow down and stay curious. Here’s to a mindful Monday—and seeing the world with a little more intention. (fb)

Happy 40th Birthday, Chuckie! Today we’re celebrating a very special milestone for one of our most playful and social orangutans—Chuckie turns 40 today! Born on April 6, 1985, Chuckie’s early years were far from what any great ape deserves. Shortly after being born, he was sold to a dealer because he was a hybrid between Bornean and Sumatran orangutans. From there, he spent years performing in a circus—an experience that not only altered his physical development but limited his chance to grow up like a typical male orangutan. Despite those challenges, Chuckie’s life took a joyful turn when he was retired and arrived at the Center for Great Apes in 2006. And one of the most heartwarming moments? He was reunited here with Radcliffe, his old circus companion. The two instantly reconnected—playing, grooming, and sharing snacks like no time had passed at all. While he’s now considered a senior, Chuckie still has the heart and energy of a youngster! He loves somersaulting around his habitat, hanging upside down, and making playful vocalizations. You’ll often find him exploring the sanctuary’s aerial trailways, splashing in the water, and stopping by to greet staff, volunteers, and, of course, Radcliffe. Thank you to Timothy P., Chuckie’s Day Sponsor, for making his birthday extra special today! Your support helps us give Chuckie the joyful, enriched life he deserves. (fb)
