A Bill in the Oregon legislature seeks to expand the cattle industry myth-based WAR on every single Western Juniper in Oregon. "Junipers now have a stranglehold on much of the Intermountain West,” said Link Olsen, a native of Madras who is now a researcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks”. This ignores the recent radical deforestation that has already taken place in Oregon - that has wiped out trees an d all the wonderful rolling shade, watershed protection and wildlife habitat they provide - often leaving only cheatgrass in the wake of “treatments”. If you live in Oregon -please call your Reps.. and tell them to vote NO. They begrudge trees the water they transpire -and would rather have medushead instead, apparently. And newsflash to the Oregon legislature - ALL trees and shrubs transpire water. Can you believe it? 4 million acres of the Humboldt-Toiyabe Forest have gone astray - just like little lost lambs. "Approximately 4 million acres of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, located in both Nevada and eastern California, have strayed from their historical fire regime”. So says Duncan Leao, Humboldt-Toiyabe Forest Fire EA project head and fire/mastication/chainsaw zealot. He's pushing the horrific HTNF Fire EA with which the Forest Service plans to attack the maturing, mature and old growth subalpine fir, limber pine, pine, Pinyon-Juniper, and sagebrush. Yes - the FS is chomping at the bit to burn up sagebrush because it's bogus lire models claims the sage is "uncharacteristic". Basically any place that provides good habitat for sagebrush-dependent species is has "strayed". And only the Good Shepherding of the Forest Service's maniacal treatment-industrial complex can get it back where it needs to be. Of course, the supposed "historical fire regimes" Leao's remarks are based on are the result of deeply flawed FS-BLM/Nature Conservancy Black Box "Landfire" models. But Hey - please make sure Duncan gets tens of millions of tax dollars annually over the next 15-20 years to "Convert" through Baptism by Fire/Masticator/Husqvarna -those stray acres to ashes, wood chips, stumps - and bring them back into ideal modeled "health". And just think what a boon this will be to the Welfare Ranchers - all that nasty woody vegetation wiped out, and later when cheatgrass/medusahead etc. take over, just think of the "Targeted Grazing" opportunities.
