Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota

The Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota (TAFM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to aiding the resettlement of Tibetan immigrants in Minnesota while preserving the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Tibet. Founded in 1992, TAFM has become a cornerstone for the local Tibetan community, particularly in the Twin Cities area, which now hosts the second-largest Tibetan American population in the United States.

History

TAFM's establishment was a direct response to the Immigration Act of 1990, under which the U.S. Congress granted one thousand immigrant visas to Tibetans residing in India and Nepal. Over the years, the organization has played a pivotal role in settling Tibetan families, prioritizing self-reliance and education as core principles of community development. In 1992-93, with the help of volunteers and American host families, 160 Tibetans were initially settled in the Twin Cities.

Mission and Programs

TAFM is committed to promoting Tibetan culture and spirituality under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The organization offers a diverse range of programs:
