Young people are being empowered to tackle unsafe migration and human trafficking as part of a joint project in Kapchorwa, Uganda. Huge thanks to our project partners, the British Council, and the co-funders of the Better Migration Management programme: the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). We’re really excited about the impact that this work is having and the long-term benefits of working with grassroot communities to inform policy change and raise awareness. We’re seeing young people advocate for safe migration, develop self-reliance within their own communities, and protect themselves from human trafficking. A panel discussion and Q&A about this work was broadcast on Ugandan TV station, NBS, last week. It was an honor to be invited to the White House yesterday to celebrate the signing of the TAKE IT DOWN Act—a vital piece of bipartisan legislation that Hope for Justice proudly endorses and strongly supports. From our U.S. Program Director, Sarah Butler, who was at the White House for the signing: "This groundbreaking law makes it a criminal offense to publish non-consensual intimate images, including those that are AI-generated or manipulated (deepfakes). It also mandates that social media platforms and websites remove this content within 48 hours of receiving a victim’s request. At Hope for Justice, we know there is a direct link between online exploitation and human trafficking. This legislation is a crucial step in preventing further harm and safeguarding survivors across the country. I was in good company and it was great to see some of my favorite leaders in the anti-trafficking space there! What an amazing experience! A special thanks to Anne Basham." (fb)
