Job's Daughters International

Overview

Job's Daughters International (JDI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering leadership, charity, and character building among girls and young women aged 10 to 20. It operates through chapters known as "Bethels" in the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and the Philippines.

History

Founded in 1920, Job's Daughters International has a rich history as a leadership organization focused on equal opportunities and personal growth. The organization draws inspiration from the Book of Job, specifically the story of Job's daughters, who were granted inheritance by their father, symbolizing independence and confidence.

Mission

The mission of JDI is to create strong young women who respect tradition and shape the future. This is achieved by empowering members to develop critical skills such as leadership, public speaking, and teamwork.

Membership

To be eligible for membership, girls must be between the ages of 10 and 20 and either be related to or sponsored by a Master Mason. Additionally, members must believe in a higher power, though they are free to practice their own faith.

Activities and Programs

Members of JDI participate in a wide range of activities, including bimonthly meetings, fundraisers, service projects, leadership workshops, and social events. They also engage in community service, such as visiting hospitals and participating in food drives.

Charity

Job's Daughters International supports The HIKE Fund, a charity aimed at providing hearing assistive devices to children who cannot afford them, with an estimated 100 children benefiting annually. Members often learn sign language as part of their community service.

Governance and Supervision

Each Bethel is overseen by a Bethel Guardian Council, composed of a Bethel Guardian, Associate Bethel Guardian, and other appointed adults. These volunteers undergo the Certified Adult Volunteer (CAV) program, which includes training and background checks.

Religious Aspect

While Job's Daughters International requires a belief in a higher power and incorporates values related to faith, it is not a religion. Members are encouraged to practice their own faith outside the organization.

International Scope

JDI operates globally with chapters in multiple countries. The organization remains committed to inclusivity and diversity, fostering a sense of sisterhood among its international members.
