Five Rivers Metroparks Foundation
Introduction
The Five Rivers Metroparks Foundation is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Five Rivers MetroParks system in the Greater Dayton area of Ohio. Established in September 2014, the foundation plays a crucial role in securing philanthropic funding for special projects and programs beyond what is covered by public levies[2][5].
Mission
The foundation's mission is to build strong community relationships and secure philanthropic funding to support the mission of Five Rivers MetroParks. This includes enhancing parks, trails, green spaces, and recreation facilities for the local community[2].
Funding and Activities
The foundation is primarily funded by contributions from individuals, businesses, and other foundations. In recent years, these contributions have accounted for a significant portion of the foundation's revenue, with program services also contributing to its financial base[3]. Donations to the foundation are tax-deductible[3].
Projects and Initiatives
The foundation supports a variety of projects and initiatives, including:
- Carriage Hill MetroPark Historic Trail
- Possum Creek MetroPark ADA dock
- Access to Nature Financial Assistance Program, which helps qualified individuals participate in fee-based MetroParks programs and camps[2][5]
- Passport to MetroParks prizes
- Ebike for MetroParks Rangers
- Pollinator habitat at Cox Arboretum MetroPark
- Conservation research
Financial Overview
As of recent reports, the foundation boasted total assets of approximately $1.5 million. Its revenue is predominantly derived from contributions, emphasizing the role of community support in its mission[3].
Support Initiatives
To encourage ongoing support, the foundation offers programs such as the Champions Program, which allows for recurring monthly donations starting at $10. These donations help fund special projects that enhance the community's experience with Five Rivers MetroParks[5]. Additionally, the foundation facilitates planned giving and land endowments to ensure long-term financial stability for the MetroParks system[2].
Conclusion
The Five Rivers Metroparks Foundation is a vital partner in protecting and enhancing the natural and recreational resources of the Greater Dayton area. Through its efforts, the foundation helps preserve the region's natural beauty for future generations.

Supporting your local farmers is so important and we make it easy at the 2nd Street Market! So many farmers, artisans and prepared food vendors all in one location. The Market is **OPEN** and is not part of the NATO Village footprint! Head over there this weekend to stock up on fresh produce! (fb)

We've all felt the rising costs of food at stores. Combine that with existing food insecurity rates and there's a great need for everyone to have equitable access to fresh, nutritious food. One way your MetroParks is helping those who need it most is by partnering with the @thefoodbankinc and local pantries to hand out free Garden to Go bags to folks who visit these local food pantries. Our gardening crew, volunteers and support staff have assembled and will hand out 800 of these bags so people can help pad their pantries with fresh food and enjoy gardening - which is great for your health and the planet! Your MetroParks also offers gardening programs in its parks. Those who qualify can use Access to Nature financial aid to help cover much of the cost of these programs. Learn more and apply at metroparks.org/access. A huge shout out to all our staff and partner agencies who help support this critical project! . . . . #gardening #garden #produce #foodsecurity #dayton #ohio #metroparks #fiveriversmetroparks (fb)
