This week we posted a photo of one of our MG Volunteers showing how quackgrass spreads. Since eradicating it was discussed more than one, I went to the MG Answer Clinic to get their official answer on how to rid our lawns and gardens of this nuisance. Sadly it is not great news. From the Answer Clinic: It can be very difficult to eradicate once it becomes established. Persistent digging in areas of small infestation is the non-chemical solution, but as we know, rhizome cuttings, however small, can create another plant. The chemical solutions are not palatable to all gardeners, but it may be the only solution to large infestations. In case you had not seen it, a truck caring 250million bees overturned in Whatcom County. While not near us, it is still interesting to learn why the bees are being transported, and what is done about it. Also nice to know that most of the bees should be fine. However traffic in the area will find themselves in a STICKY situation so BEE cautious! And if you are up there trying to run errands off that HONEY-do list, it may have to wait a day or two, so COMB through your errand options! 😁 Let’s BEE safe out there! 🐝 (fb)
