NDFB’s #memberoftheweek is Jade Gores from Rolla, N.D. Jade is a director on the Rolette County Farm Bureau Board. Jade grew up on his family's farm near Hansboro, N.D., where they raised Quarter Horses and Percheron teams. After graduating from high school, Jade attended Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls for Computer Service and Networking. He is now a network technician for United & Turtle Mountain Communications. He resides outside of Rolla, with his two children and 8 horses. When it comes to horses, Jade has a wealth of knowledge. From a young age, he was immersed in the horse industry. Jade's family started raising Quarter Horses and showing them across the state, and they were active members of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA). They then got involved with Percheron horses and participated in competitive events like the eight-horse hitch. The Gores family has been involved with team horses for many years now. They have participated in events across the country and are well known for their involvement in community events such as Munich Santa Days, parades, and more! "What I enjoy most about agriculture is that I feel like it slows me down. I take in more of what's going on around me while I'm on the farm rather than when I'm in town. I also like that it's self-dependent," he says. Though Jade is a recent addition to the Rolette County Farm Bureau board, he says he has seen the impact they have in the community. "I've enjoyed seeing the effect we have during our Special Assignment Pizza program in the Rolla School. The students really seem to enjoy it and learn about agriculture!" When asked where he would like to travel to see a different perspective of agriculture, he said, "I have never been to an orchard or vineyard before but have always been curious!"
