2025 Bix Jazz Festival 🎉🎶💃🏻 Band Bio #8 — GRAYSTONE MONARCHS 🎼 The Graystone Monarchs is comprised of outstanding classic jazz musicians who are performing at the Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival. The Monarchs play many of the songs associated with Bix that were recorded during his time with the Jean Goldkette and Paul Whiteman Orchestras. And the musicians are also capable of breaking down into smaller groups to play music that Bix recorded with the Wolverines, Bix and his Gang and Frankie Trumbauer and his Orchestra. In addition to the material associated with Bix, the Graystone Monarchs play big band arrangements that were originally recorded by Fletcher Henderson, McKinney’s Cotton Pickers, Ben Pollack, Cab Calloway, Earl Hines, Doc Cook, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton and many more.  Musicians who will perform with the Graystone Monarchs at the 2025 Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival include: Andy Schumm, Mike Davis, Dave Kosmyna, Brandon Au, Natalie Scharf, Matt Tolentino, David Boeddinghaus, T.J. Muller, Dan Anderson and others. The leader of the Graystone Monarchs is Josh Duffee, a Davenport Native. Josh is a master of classic jazz drumming styles -- from Chauncey Morehouse to Gene Krupa – and lesser-known drummers such as Stan King, Leroy Maxey, Kaiser Marshall and Cuba Austin. In addition to his mastery of the drum set, Josh plays “hot tympani” based on the recordings of the legendary Vic Berton; is a virtuoso performer on the xylophone, inspired by Teddy Brown and has demonstrated his admiration for Louis Bellson on numerous occasions, playing a set of Bellson’s own drums.
