Caring From A Distance Inc

There are more than 6.9 million long distance family caregivers in the U.S. Almost one in four live more than an hour away. Research shows that they spend almost $10,000 a year arranging local care, traveling, and paying out-of-pocket costs for professional eldercare services. This situation can last for months or years. Distance caregivers are often burdened by worry, guilt and frustration because of their limited ability to provide hands-on-care. Over time, the impact on their lives is profound. Studies show that they rearrange work schedules (40%), miss days of work (33%), or take extended absence (12%) from work. The impact on home life is also stressful. CFAD's mission is to help this caregiving population determine its needs and tasks: provide basic information and decision-making tools; connect caregivers with local service providers; facilitate communication between caregiving family/providers; and advocate on caregiver issues.
