Alabama & Mississippi passed laws this year to ensure paid parental leave for some public employees. ✨ Paid family & sick leave helps workers, families, & the economy thrive ✨ In the absence of federal action, many states have adopted paid leave policies of their own. But access in the South lags behind other regions of the country, reflecting a long history of low wages & limited benefits that are rooted in racist efforts to exploit Black & brown workers. AL and MS's laws are a small but welcome step toward comprehensive paid leave for ALL workers: https://www.epi.org/blog/progress-on-paid-leave-in-the-south-new-state-parental-leave-policies-are-a-small-but-welcome-step-toward-comprehensive-paid-leave-for-all-southern-workers/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=paid_leave_south&utm_content=post (fb)

Domestic workers are the 2. 3 million workers nationwide who provide vital support to our elders and chronically ill or disabled family members care for our children and help maintain our households. Despite their vital role in supporting American families and the economy domestic workers are underpaid and unprotected particularly in the South where nearly onethird of the countrys domestic workers live. Lawmakers should adopt Domestic Worker Bill of Rights legislation amend state laws to allow domestic workers to form unions and eliminate harmful state preemption of local labor ordinances that improve upon state law.
