The Dream Factory is a national children's wish-granting organization headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. The Dream Factory grants dreams to chronically and critically ill children ages 3 through 18 in areas where our chapters are located. The Dream Factory, Inc., the second-largest children's wish-granting organization in the United States, grants the dreams of children who have been diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses and are 3 through 18 years of age. We serve children with chronic conditions as well and critical illnesses because we believe children with significant chronic conditions suffer physically and emotionally as well. Founded in Hopkinsville, Kentucky in 1980, The Dream Factory nationally has granted thousands of dreams in its history. Having no paid staff at the chapter level, we depend on very dedicated volunteers in over 30 chapters across the country to raise funds, arrange dream trips and procure special items for children in their own communities.

Dream Factory, Inc. Central Illinois
Overview

Dream Factory, Inc. Central Illinois is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to granting the dreams of children between the ages of 3 and 18 who are critically or chronically ill. As part of the larger national organization known as The Dream Factory, Inc., it operates under the same mission to make dreams come true for these children without limiting its scope to life-threatening conditions alone.

Mission and Operations

The mission of Dream Factory, Inc. Central Illinois aligns with the national organization's goal to provide emotional and physical relief to children suffering from chronic illnesses and disorders. To achieve this, the organization relies entirely on volunteer efforts, with no paid staff at the local level. This structure allows for a significant portion of funds raised to be used directly in granting dreams, mirroring the national organization's efficiency where 96.1% of all money raised is allocated to dream fulfillment.

Governance and Chapters

Dream Factory chapters across the United States, including Central Illinois, operate independently but are guided by the national headquarters. Each chapter typically serves a 50-mile radius of its home city and is responsible for its own operations, including fundraising and dream selection. The organization encourages local community involvement through volunteer opportunities in various roles such as fundraising, event management, and public relations.

Funding and Efficiency

The national organization of which Dream Factory, Inc. Central Illinois is a part, has been recognized for its financial efficiency. It has received a perfect 4-star rating by Charity Navigator for 13 consecutive years, a distinction earned by only 5% of charities evaluated.

Community Impact

By focusing on both critically and chronically ill children, Dream Factory, Inc. Central Illinois aims to provide these youngsters with experiences that bring joy and hope during difficult times. The organization's volunteer-driven approach ensures that local communities play a central role in these efforts. For those areas without a chapter, starting a new one can be initiated by gathering a group of dedicated volunteers with the support of the national headquarters.

Conclusion

Dream Factory, Inc. Central Illinois is a vital part of a broader movement to improve the lives of chronically and critically ill children through dream fulfillment. Its commitment to volunteerism and financial efficiency underscores its mission to maximize the impact of its support.
