Home is more than four walls - it's where life happens. It's where we celebrate milestones, build communities, and find security. But what happens when housing becomes unaffordable? 📊 In Charleston, SC, rent has soared by nearly $500 in 10 years, while wages struggle to keep pace. Across the South, housing insecurity is forcing families into instability, affecting education, health, and economic mobility. In the 2025 State of the South Report, Craig Logan, a community advocate, sheds light on the housing crisis and how we can create solutions that work for everyone. Join the conversation. Read "They say home is where the heart is, and I couldn't agree more, and check out the entire report below. 🔗: https://www.report.stateofthesouth.org/stories/meaning/they-say-home-is-where-the-heart-is-and-i-couldnt-agree-more/ (fb)

As we recognize Autism Awareness Month, MDC Learning for Equity: A network for Solutions is sharing information about who is being impacted by learning differences, specific learning disabilities, neurodivergence, and autism. Roughly 20% of people have some kind of learning difference, including specific learning disabilities or other types of neurodivergence. In the public school system, 7.5 million students (15%_ are served under the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) - with 32% of IDEA students receiving accommodations for dyslexia or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). 15% of IDEA students receive accommodations for autism. Nationwide, 2.5% of people have been diagnosed with autism, with 50-70% of autism diagnoses also accompanying an ADHD diagnosis. Before we explore resources that recommend policies and practices to create inclusive communities, schools, and workplaces, we wanted to highlight just how many people would benefit from these interventions. Relatively straightforward interventions like reducing ambient noise in the workplace and/or including multiple assignment options in a classroom can impact millions of students and community members in North Carolina and beyond. For more information, check out our blog post at mdcinc.org/blog! Stay tuned for updates all this month! (fb)
