The final week of May was a busy one for the North Berrien Historical Museum! On Thursday afternoon, seventh and eighth grade students from Brookview Montessori School visited the museum to learn about the Civil War. Museum staff and volunteers presented in historically themed clothing, bringing to life the hardships faced by both servicemen and civilians of wartime. Activities included a breakdown of the Union Soldier uniform and its accessories, decoding secret messages, and shelling corn. On Friday afternoon, NBHM Curator and Programs Director Katie St. Amand visited Countryside Academy on Meadowbrook to participate in the school’s FARE Day. Katie and volunteers gave a short presentation on the Berrien County Fruit Belt to six classes of third through fifth graders. A total of 180 students were reached.
