The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce proudly recognizes The City of Albany Parks & Recreation Department as this week’s Star Business of the Week. While not a traditional “business,” this service-driven department plays a powerful role in enhancing the quality of life for residents across our community. Mission-minded and citizen-focused, the department works each day to ensure that the people of Albany have safe, welcoming spaces to gather, play, and grow regardless of age, background, or neighborhood. From youth sports and after-school programs to senior wellness, fitness classes, and community events, they offer something for everyone in every corner of our city. Their team manages a wide variety of facilities (parks, trails, recreation centers, and more) that serve as vital touchpoints for health, connection, and joy. Led by Director Steven Belk, a lifelong lover of Albany, the department operates with a heart for service and a vision for a better, stronger Albany. Their efforts go beyond recreation as they strengthen families, build relationships, and create a sense of belonging. Through thoughtful programming and intentional outreach, they continue to put the needs of citizens first.
