The Fremont Area Community Foundation was founded in 1980 by a gift from the estate of Ethel Whelan, subsequently enlarged by the gifts of other donors. Its purpose is to benefit Fremont, Nebraska, and its surrounding area by (1) providing a flexible vehicle for donors with many charitable interests to fulfill their charitable goals and/or leave a legacy for their community; (2) building permanent endowment funds to respond to changing needs in the community; (3) serving as convenor to bring groups together to respond to community problems and opportunities. The Foundation is governed by a 26 member Board of Directors.
