Broadway Barks, founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore, is an annual animal charity event held each year in New York City to promote the adoption of shelter animals. In July of each year since 1999, Broadway performers present adoptable cats and dogs with the participation of many animal groups from the New York City area. In addition to the event, Broadway Barks spends the rest of the year providing community outreach and financial support to provide temporary shelter to stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals for the purpose of finding permanent suitable new homes as well as high quality veterinary care for many of the shelter animals.
