Congratulations to another scholarship winner! . Mason Orem – This fall, I plan to attend the University of Idaho to study Agricultural Systems Management. The program will equip me with the expertise needed to analyze and enhance production methods, implement new methods with modern technology, and gain agricultural business knowledge to improve the farming and ranching operation. During my time at the University of Idaho, I plan to take courses that will provide practical applications for my family’s farm. I plan to focus on precision agriculture and new technology to make sure we are more efficient with our dryland farming. Learning about emerging technologies in agriculture will allow me to bring innovative solutions back home, helping to increase efficiency and profitability. Upon college graduation, I plan to play out my childhood goal and return home to work on my family’s wheat and cattle operation, bringing back valuable knowledge and skills that I learned from college to help our farm remain competitive in the rapidly evolving industry we work in. In a time where farming inputs are so expensive, I’m excited to use new technology and practices I have learned to cut expenses and ensure a profitable and sustainable future for the farm. My favorite part about the Pendleton Cattle Barons weekend is watching the display of horses in the ranch rodeo.
