Several years ago, during early stakeholder meetings, our original exhibit designer was inspired by the incredible story we have to tell about the Southwest region of our state—and that the future children’s museum could be the perfect place to bring that story to life. From the ancient dinosaurs that once roamed this area to the authentic legacy of Western cowboys and frontier life, an opportunity to merge these rich histories in a way that would inspire and engage young minds was created. This vision gave birth to the concept of the Dinosaur Cowboy—a whimsical and meaningful character that brings together prehistoric wonder and Western heritage. When this concept was shared with artist Christine Knapp, she was immediately inspired. Through her talent and imagination, she created a stunning rendering that captured the spirit of this idea and laid the groundwork for what would become an iconic sculpture. Thanks to Harvey Deselms and his dedication to public art through the Capitol Sculpture Project, key connections were made to help bring this project to life. Among the earliest champions were Tom and Dixie Roberts, who generously stepped forward with means of seeing this sculpture proudly placed in front of the future children’s museum. Today, that vision has been fully realized. With the craftsmanship and support of Harold F. Johnson Masonry, Dog, and their exceptional team, the sculpture now stands atop a beautiful custom-built base—an enduring symbol of creativity, collaboration, and community spirit. Thanks to the visionaries, artists, and supporters who believed in this project, the Cheyenne Children’s Museum is now honored to call the Dino Totem home. It stands not only as a work of art, but as a testament to what we can achieve together when we dream boldly and build with purpose. (fb)
