Access To Justice Foundation Inc
The mission of the Access to Justice Foundation (AJF), a Kentucky non-profit created in 1996, is to expand access to the civil justice system for low-income people by increasing volunteer lawyer involvement and expanding financial support for Kentucky's legal aid programs. AJF pursues these goals by promoting and coordinating statewide pro bono opportunities for volunteer lawyers, providing poverty law training, directing resource development activities, participating in a medical-legal partnership with Kentucky Children's Hospital to provide free legal services to low income families with children who are ill or have a disability, and providing free telephone legal assistance to seniors throughout Kentucky. In addition, AJF was instrumental in the creation of the Kentucky Access to Justice Commission (KAJC), created by order of the Kentucky Supreme Court in 2010, in response to the great and growing need for civil legal aid for those of low to moderate incomes in Kentucky. The KAJC's primary responsibilities are to identify the needs of the legal services community in providing civil legal services to the poor; create a statewide plan to deliver civil legal services; and develop strategies to increase resources and funding for civil legal services in Kentucky.
