Dollars for Scholars is a national volunteer organization and chapter service of the Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation of America founded in the 1950’s. It evolved into Scholarship America and Freeport Dollars for Scholars is the local chapter. Freeport Dollars for Scholars is a nonprofit foundation which began in 1988 and gave out its first scholarships at the end of the 1989 school year. Funds we raise are used for Freeport School District, resident student scholarships. Scholarships are given to students graduating from grade 6 at Atkinson School, grade 8 Dodd Middle School and seniors Freeport High School. , also reach out to private and parochial high school students intending to seek higher learning who reside in the Freeport Public School District. The Awards Ceremony is held in May at Freeport High School in cooperation with the Freeport Public Schools.`
