The mission of the Vail Mountain Rescue Group is to provide back country search and rescue, as well as education on back country safety, in Eagle County. Members of the team are all unpaid volunteers drawn from all facets of the community including ski patrollers, backcountry guides, mountain climbers and professional medical personnel. The team is responsible for all search and rescue operations in the unincorporated areas of Eagle County. Areas of expertise include avalanche search and rescue, ice and snow evacuations, lost party search and rescue, as well as whitewater and cave rescue on a 24/7/365 basis. The Group is nationally certified through the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA). Our missions are authorized by the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.
