People with developmental disabilities are often at risk of abuse, neglect and life-defining segregation from ordinary community life. Citizen advocacy offers protection and advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities by matching them with an active and engaged citizen who is asked to listen, learn, respond to and represent the person's interests as if they were the advocate's own.
