In 1867, Sonoma County recognized Santa Rosa as an incorporated city, confirmed by California in 1868. The Historical Society of Santa Rosa is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of our town. The purpose of the Historical Society of Santa ROsa is to promote the knowledge of Santa Rosa's rich and diverse history in its many aspects and in the broadest sense and to encourage efforts to preserve evidence of the City's past, both it oral and written records and its structures, sites, and landscapes, thus furthering awareness that our history is a seamless web of connections between past and present.

Historical Society of Santa Rosa - Historical Society of Santa Rosa Santa Rosa Fire Department 1905 to 1915 Santa Rosa Fire Department officials and notables stand proudly by the citys new pumper engine in front of the fire station in the 500 block of 5th St just west of the present day Exchange Bank circa 1905 to 1915. Early Fourth Street 1902 to 1910 This eastward view of early Fourth Street reflects the mix of transportation methods horsedrawn private conveyances and electric public streetcars. The small city enjoyed a number of streetcar lines.
