Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa traces its origins to Kappa Phi Omicron, an honorary group established at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, in 1910. The society was officially formed in 1918 by students and college presidents from eight Missouri junior colleges for women, with the goal of creating a unified honor society modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, a prestigious senior college honor society. By the 1930s, Margaret James Mosal played a crucial role in PTK's growth, serving as its first National President and later National Secretary. Under her leadership, PTK expanded significantly, and by the 1960s, it had established a national office and a Board of Directors.
