Teddy Pendergrass Legendary Soul Singer 1950 2010 Teddy Pendergrass established a solo career after leaving the Blue Notes in 1975 there after he released his selftitled solo debut a Top 10 RB hit that achieved platinum sales. He received his first Grammy nomination for Best RB Vocal Performance Male for his 1978 single Close The Door. Pendergrass also made history for being the first black singer to have five consecutive platinum albums. Notable singles include Turn off The Lights and Love TKO his streak ran from 1977s Teddy Pendergrass to 1981s Its Time for Love.
