AHED is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation whose mission is to support the preservation rehabilitation and development of and access to affordable and workforce housing and to support economic opportunities for lowerincome families. AHED works to advance its housing mission in three main areas 1 providing relief for the poor and distressed by creating and preserving lowincome housing 2 providing relief for the elderly or physically handicapped by supporting affordable housing that services their special needs and 3 addressing the needs of Hawaiis workforce by supporting the development of workforce housing and economic initiatives intended to decrease the disparity between the cost of housing and the incomes of individuals and families. AHEDs economic development goal is to encourage and foster employment and business opportunities in lowerincome communities in Hawaii thereby improving the residents quality of life.
