Early Detection The National Alliance of State Prostate Cancer Coalitions supports the early detection of prostate cancer by recommending that beginning at age 45 all men have a discussion with their healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of obtaining a baseline PSA and optionally have a digital rectal exam DRE and subsequently obtain a PSA on a regular basis as determined by your physician. For highrisk patients including AfricanAmerican men and those with a family history of prostate cancer screening at an earlier age should be discussed with your physician.
