Juneteenth – Freedom Day – June 19 Today, we pause to remember and honor Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. As the Episcopal Church in Delaware, we reflect on this history with reverence and acknowledge the deep legacy of injustice that still impacts our society. We commit ourselves to the work of racial justice and reconciliation, standing firm in the Gospel call to love, liberation, and dignity for all.
