Neema-Huruma Foundation Inc
The Neema-Huruma Foundation Inc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States. Its primary mission is to elevate the lives of young people in Kenya through education, focusing particularly on providing academic opportunities to girls and young men in the Imbirikani area.
History and Mission
The foundation was established to address the significant educational disparities faced by girls in the Imbirikani region of Kenya. Historically, nearly 98% of girls in this area lacked access to education beyond primary school, leading to early marriages and limited opportunities. By supporting the construction and operation of schools, the Neema-Huruma Foundation aims to offer these girls a path towards a more promising future through education.
Key Initiatives
-
Imbirikani Girls High School: The foundation supports this school, which began in 2004. Initially started with just 40 students, the school has grown significantly and now operates under the oversight of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA). Over time, additional facilities such as dormitories, dining halls, and classrooms have been added, making it a robust college-preparatory secondary school with a capacity for 400 students.
-
Community Development: Beyond the educational initiatives, the foundation is involved in broader community development. This includes supporting local church construction and providing theological training for indigenous pastors and elders.
Activities and Impact
The foundation's activities include:
- Supporting educational infrastructure and programs for girls.
- Facilitating mission trips to Kenya that involve church building and community outreach.
- Training local leaders through theological seminars.
- Planning for future trade school initiatives to further empower young people in the region.
By supporting these initiatives, the Neema-Huruma Foundation has a positive impact on over 2,500 people annually in the Imbirikani region.

The Neema-Huruma Foundation transforms the lives of young girls by empowering, enlightening, and educating them to become leaders of change in their communities! #NeemaHuruma #Education #Hope (fb)

"As a teacher, nothing warms your heart more than seeing your students grow and make a meaning out of their lives. I taught this girl Mary Mwara in Form three and four back in 2009-2010 and I can say it wasn't a waste of chalk. She is a full accountant with a degree in Accounting and some good number of CPA certificates. She will move mountains. Watch this space..." -Teacher at IGHS, Tito Nyanyuki (fb)
