One thing I've learned about supporting those who have gone through spiritual abuse is that they often worry that people will think they are making too much of something. Like they had a bad experience with someone, but it wasn't abusive. Survivors need someone who can be empathic and grounded. Someone who can listen and be compassionate and validate their feelings and experience. But then, when they are ready, to offer wisdom, steps to take, and tools for healing. Spiritual abuse is a new "buzzword," but some of us have been serving the hurting in this area for decades. It's complicated, layered, nuanced, and each case is different. Every single time it takes the supernatural revelation of God to touch on the hurting areas and heal the injured person. He is a great healer and never fails. I may be his hands, but he is the source.
