WELCOME TO THE MARYLAND CLUB The Maryland Club formed in 1857 when citizens proudly referred to Baltimore as the monumental city. The new club chose as its first president a welleducated lover of horse racing and nephew of the late French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. For 35 years the members originally settled in an imposing house that Robert Mills had designed. January 1 1892 saw the transfer of furniture books artwork and antiquities on dozens of wagons headed to the current location 1 East Eager Street as handsome a building devoted entirely to social purposes as there is in the country claimed the Baltimore Sun.
