Taking Root Farms

Taking Root Farms is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a supportive and empowering environment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Located in Richland County, Ohio, this initiative was founded by two mothers who sought to create a more comprehensive and holistic model for day habilitation services outside the traditional urban setting.

Mission and Vision

The mission of Taking Root Farms is to foster choice and purpose within the community by connecting individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities to community partners. Programs and Services

Taking Root Farms offers year-round, full-day programming five days a week, including activities such as planting, harvesting, small animal husbandry, and other educational and recreational endeavors. These activities are designed to help participants develop life skills, build relationships, and enhance their sense of belonging and self-worth.

The organization aims to create a rural setting that includes facilities for horticulture, small animal care, accessible walking paths, and recreational areas. This setup is intended to provide a unique and supportive environment that promotes personal growth and community integration.

Most of the operating funds for Taking Root Farms are secured through federal and state reimbursements, with the remainder covered by annual fundraising efforts. The organization relies on community support through donations and volunteer efforts to advance its mission.
