Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is an American nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to addressing child bedlessness by providing beds to children who lack them. Founded in 2012 by Luke and Heidi Mickelson in Twin Falls, Idaho, SHP has grown significantly, expanding its reach across the United States and into Canada.

Mission and Activities

The organization's mission, embodied by its motto "NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN," is to ensure every child has a safe and comfortable place to sleep. SHP achieves this through a network of volunteer-driven chapters that design, build, and deliver bunk beds directly to children in need. The beds are often accompanied by bedding items donated by the community.

SHP has organized numerous national and local events to support its mission, including its annual Deliveries Across America (DAA) initiative. This event mobilizes volunteers across the country to deliver beds on a single day, amplifying the organization's impact.

Expansion and Recognition

As of recent years, Sleep in Heavenly Peace has grown to over 350 chapters across North America, with thousands of volunteers contributing to its cause. The organization has built and delivered more than 250,000 beds, making it a significant force in combating child bedlessness.

Luke Mickelson, the founder of SHP, was recognized as a CNN Hero in 2018 for his work with the organization. SHP has also been featured on various media platforms, highlighting its efforts to improve the lives of children through safe and comfortable sleeping conditions.
