This year, our remarkable musicians will present six captivating and diverse concerts built around the theme of “Reflection and Celebration”. Concert dates are June 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, and 14, with two free open rehearsals June 4 and 11. WE PROMISE TO DELIGHT, SURPRISE AND ENGAGE YOU! Back for this celebration and as a reflection of the Festival’s past four decades are musicians long associated with the Festival — including violinist & co-Artistic Director Catherine Cho, pianist Robert McDonald, flutist Tara Helen O’Connor, violinists/violists Daniel and Todd Phillips, and founding members clarinetist Lawrie Bloom and cellist & co-Artistic Director Marcy Rosen, as well as award-winning younger musicians such as returning Rising Star cellist Sterling Elliott, pianist Albert Cano Smit, and violist Zhanbo Zheng. The iconic Juilliard String Quartet will headline the Festival’s second week and our audiences will be introduced to another young award-winning pianist, Evren Ozel. They will join long-time festival favorites. Well good morning everyone! It's April Fool's Day BUT we're going to be nice and just tell you some more about the next event for us here at Chesapeake Music, The Hesper Quartet along with pianist Ying Li on April 27th at 2pm at the The Ebenezer Theater! Sojeong Kim, Violin Ye Jin Yoon, Violin SoHui Yun, Viola Connor Kim, Cello The Hesper String Quartet is a Korean-American chamber ensemble that was formed as a student group at the Emerson String Quartet Institute of Stony Brook University in 2022. Since its formation, the quartet maintains an energetic balance of performing works by Beethoven, Schumann, and Haydn, while performing works by living composers such as Joan Tower. Notable achievements include winning first prize at the Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition, the Servaas Competition, and the Ackerman Chamber Competition and here at Chesapeake Music's 2024 International Competition taking home the Silver Prize. Its members–Sojeong Kim, Ye Jin Yoon, SoHui Yun ,Connor Kim–hold degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, Yale University, Stony Brook University, and Seoul National University. “Hesper” means evening star, and like how each star in the night sky has its own story, the Hesper Quartet strives to tell the fascinating story of each work of music that they play.
