When heifers attack! Our volunteer photographer stared danger right in the eye while photographing the Kruger barn in Waukon Saturday. Thankfully, he escaped unharmed. :-) The early 1900 barn in Waukon received a restoration grant in 2024 and will be one of 98 stops on the The Iowa Barn Foundation All-State Fall Barn Tour September 13-14. The Kuehner family dairy farm in Decorah has been in continuous operation since 1959. They currently milk 90 head in their barn that was built in 1878. (fb)

Barns Americas symbols of honesty integrity and the American dream are disappearing from Iowas countryside at a rapid rate. With mechanized agriculture of today barns are no longer the center of the farm. But they remain poignant reminders of our agricultural heritage. Founded in 1997 the Iowa Barn Foundation an allvolunteer allstate organization is dedicated to preserving Iowas rural agricultural buildings.
