Green Door – Community Program
Green Door Behavioral Health empowers the lives of individuals and families through comprehensive treatment and support services.Since 1976, Green Door Behavioral Health has delivered critical services necessary for recovery for those struggling with mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders thru housing, education, employment, and psychiatric and support services which are often difficult for our clients to access and secure without Green Door's intervention. Green Door provides direct services to nearly 1,600 men and women who are living in the District of Columbia, an estimated 90% of whom live at or below the DC poverty line. More than half are either illiterate or under-educated. 20% are living in shelters or are otherwise homeless. All of our clients have severe and persistent mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or depression. In addition, more than 80% of our clients have at least one co-morbid medical condition such as hypertension, diabetes, hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS or asthma. With the challenges of brain-based diseases compounded by the ever-present burdens of poverty and trauma, Green Door is committed to meeting clients' needs by addressing the disease along with the social determinants they face daily. Green Door encourages health promotion, provides primary care, and oversees medication therapy management to ensure our clients have a holistic view of their health and care. As such, we believe that health care prevention means saved money, times and lives.
