The Cross-District Championship marked the culmination of a year of dedication and growth for student debaters from across New York City. Representing Districts 7, 8, 9, 13, 15, and 16, students gathered at the offices of White & Case LLP and Morrison Foerster to compete for the title. Attorneys from both firms generously volunteered their time to serve as judges, providing students with valuable feedback and encouragement. This year’s championship featured a wider range of districts advancing to elimination rounds than ever before, along with an inspiring level of inter-district collaboration and support. It was an exciting finale to NYC Read's regular season, with nearly 600 students gathering at MS 210 in Queens to debate congestion pricing. This tournament's focus was on analyzing and responding to rebuttal arguments—a more advanced skill requiring a deeper understanding of argument construction. This emphasis produced some of the most nuanced arguments and final speeches we've heard from this group throughout the year. We were very proud! See you at the championships, debaters! (fb)
