The Lucas Community Center is a nonprofit organization based in Lucas, Ohio. It is a community-driven facility that aims to provide an uplifting environment fostering hope, joy, and improved quality of life for local residents.
Mission and Activities
- Community Services: The center hosts the Lucas Area Ministerial Association (LAMA) Food Pantry, which serves as a critical source of food assistance, operating twice a month. It also offers various community programs, including after-school tutoring and youth activities.
- Facilities and Amenities: The center features a 7,000-square-foot facility on four acres, including a gathering room, two sand volleyball courts, an outdoor pavilion, a playground, and a non-denominational House of Prayer open 24/7 for meditation and prayer. Hanley Hall is available for events such as banquets and receptions, equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment.
- Education and Events: The center offers educational opportunities, including computer labs and seminars on topics like personal finance, technology, and health. It also hosts community events, such as movie nights, pizza parties, and community prayer services.
History
The concept of establishing a community center in Lucas began in 2007, initiated by members of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. The LCC has evolved into a key community hub, relying on volunteer staffing and supported by local donations that helped remodel and furnish the facility without government funding.
