ReadStrong 2000 provides reading instruction and support to elementary school students in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The program forms partnerships with businesses, churches, colleges and agencies for retired individuals to supply a volunteer base. ReadStrong 2000's goal is to improve reading scores and provide an emotional safety net for students struggling to reach a benchmark reading goal. • GrowthReadStrong 2000 strives to close gaps in reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary thereby significantly increasing the reading level of students in the program.ReadStrong 2000 endeavors to provide early intervention to children showing gaps in skills as early as Kindergarten age.• SupportA focus of ReadStrong 2000 Lunch Buddies program is to provide a mentor to listen, encourage, engage and inspire the student.• SuccessBy working on clearly defined attainable goals within a support setting, students will feel and see reading success. Success will breed further success. Students will be informed of personal area in need of growth and updated on progress toward the goal.• PossibilityStudents will become readers and will develop a positive attitude about themselves as readers. This will open the possibilities for future success in school, career and life.
