The Middle East Institute (MEI) will host Syrian Interim President Ahmed Al-Sharaa in New York City, on the margins of the UN General Assembly, for a timely conversation with Charles Lister, Senior Fellow and Director of MEI’s Syria Initiative. Al-Sharaa's remarks come during his inaugural trip to the United States, marking the first visit by a sitting Syrian president in nearly six decades. Nine months after the overthrow of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime, and against the backdrop of Syria’s fragile transition, President Al-Sharaa is expected to offer insights into the country’s trajectory and its evolving relations with the US and regional states.
